Course content
- Introduction to the Study of Health and Disease. Historical development of sociological approaches to health and illness. Scientific fields dealing with health and disease (medical disciplines, psychological disciplines, sociological disciplines). - Health. Determinants of health. Prevention (primary, secondary, tertiary). Principles of health care. A holistic approach to health. - Disease. Disease models. Social consequences of illness. - The sick person and his disease (attitudes towards the disease, basic stages of the disease, acute and chronic disease, the effect of the disease on the psyche of the sick person). - The patient and the healthcare environment. Hospitalization of the patient. - Multifactorial and multicausal issues of psychosomatic medicine and selected diseases of individual body systems that lead to difficult social application or invalidation. - Quality of life of the patient and his family. - Suicides in a social context.
