Course content

- The concept of literacy in pedagogical, psychological, linguistic and socio-cultural contexts. - Relationship of pre-literacy and literacy. - Literacy skills development. Factors influencing literacy. - Conditions and methods of reading literacy development at school. Diagnosing reading skills and reading comprehension. - Assessment methods. - Approaches to literacy development. Traditional phoneme approach to teaching writing and reading vs. natural approaches toward literacy development and their specific methods. - Reading strategies of lower primary school children. - Child's work with various kinds of texts, child's role in selecting a text for reading development. - Graphomotory and initial writing development. - Development and fixation of teacher's own language and communicative skills.

Students will gain notion in the field of literacy, its development and diagnosing reading and reading comprehension at lower primary school children. Students will be able to implement their gained and fixed knowledge both in reflection from field observation and in preparation of their own didactic material. |
